Project Overview

Catalyst Old River Hydroelectric Limited Partnership, a subsidiary of Brookfield Renewable (“Catalyst”), is initiating the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC or Commission) relicensing process for the Old River Hydroelectric Project (FERC No. 2854, also known as the Sidney A. Murray, Jr. Hydroelectric Project) located on the Mississippi and Old Rivers in Concordia Parish, Louisiana. The Old River Hydroelectric Project was constructed in 1990 and began operation in 1991. The Town of Vidalia is a co-licensee of the Project. The Project includes a 5,000-foot-long intake canal, a powerhouse containing eight turbine-generator units with a total rated capacity of 192-megawatts, and a 9,000-foot-long tailrace canal. The Project operates under the FERC-issued license, which expires on December 31, 2031. Accordingly, Catalyst will pursue a new license for the Project through the Commission’s Integrated Licensing Process.

What's new

The FERC five-plus year relicensing process for the Project was initiated with submittal of the Notice of Intent (NOI) and Pre-Application Document (PAD) on September 29, 2026. The PAD provides FERC and other entities with existing, relevant, and reasonably available information regarding the Project and resources in the Project vicinity. It also includes a relicensing schedule of activities and information on opportunities to participate in the relicensing process. This site will be modified and updated throughout the relicensing process, so please consult this page regularly for updates.
